WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BUSINESS ETHICS?

Using examples from several industries the authors give the readers a feel for the types of ethical situations confronting today’s managers. Focusing on some mainstream incidents touted in the media, the authors attempt to identify the reasons for unethical behavior. They present a “greed model” that may potentially explain many unethical behaviors observed. The authors argue that instead of succumbing to greed, managers need to realize that ethical behavior is its own reward – often resulting in enhanced firm performance. Several suggestions that promote ethical decision-making are made. The authors conclude by offering some helpful words of advice.
