The paper presents analysis of a line of inlet valves in a 4-cylinder, 4-stroke diesel engine. The combined dynamics and tribological investigation provides important data that can be used in the design or design evaluation of automotive valve-train systems, including vibration signature of the system, as well as prevailing contact conditions, including friction and lubrication data.
