Pervious Concrete Test Methods for the Lab and Field

Interest in and the use of permeable pavements has increased in recent years due to the potential for these systems to help alleviate storm water runoff and pollution. Communities and property owners are seeking ways to use these materials and other best management practices (BMPs) to improve sustainability. However, installation of permeable pavements has not always been successful and quality control test methods for the installer and quality assurance methods for the owner are very limited. In this study standard laboratory and field test methods for determining properties of pervious portland cement concrete (PC) were investigated for use in design and quality control purposes. The test methods proposed in this study and the data obtained could be used by a team of designers, constructors, quality control personnel, and owners to evaluate, ensure performance, and to promote pervious concrete.
