Design and construction of civil engineering projects in the Arctic environment requires knowledge of the mechanical properties and behavior of polycrystalline ice. The objective of the paper is to shed lights on the physical and mechanical behavior of ice and ice- soil composite material through presentation of the Author's experimental results along with those reported by other researchers, special emphasis is given to frozen sample testing with the objective of developing standard experimentation, as part of current research work.
