Noric is a newly developed non-conventional quenchant. It is formulated experimentally by mixing water and animal excrement. This water-based quenchant is found to make many surprising promises to the world community of material scientists and metallurgists. In addition, Noric is likely to extend learning of this subject by proposing new and useful directions to the practicing metallurgists. By trial and error method, the excrement of cow that is good for crop protection is finally selected and used in this research by mixing with water in equal proportions. In near future Noric is expected to promote Norite - a new microstructure named after its discoverer. This latest microstructure under rigorous tests for finalization appears to present good number of advantages to mechanical and metallurgical designers engaged in engineering practice for averting failures brought about by the stresses, strains and energy transfers in machine parts that result from forces, deflections and energy inputs applied. Further, Noric and Norite may lay foundation to several branches to this important and core field of material science and metallurgy since, technological development of any age is limited by the available materials and their properties after heat treatment.
