The Boeing Company is contractually required to gradually increase the production of F/A-22 wings and aft fuselage sections in the next few months and nearly triple present rates within the next two to three years. The objective of this work was to create a discrete event simulation model to aid in determining the optimum combination of number of shifts and shift lengths per CTLM for the production of composite wing skins to meet required production rates. Intangible benefits to the workers such as minimum overtime and minimum weekend shifts (maximum leisure time) should be considered as part of the mix.
