Until now devices for an in-line control of powder mixers are very rare and mostly limited in the concentration range of the tracer and/or extreme color differences between the tracer and the other components. For calcium carbonate and maize starch mixtures it could have been shown that Near Infrared Spectroscopy can be used for the in-line concentration determination of the tracer component in continuous and batch mixers. For the use of NIR Spectroscopy the tracer has to contain C-H-, O-H- or N-H-groups. These groups will be found in all organic powders. Therefore, NIR Spectroscopy can be used for a wide variety of different powders and it is not limited to two-component mixtures.
