To meet growing industrial needs in the field of high temperatures, a device was developed at BNM-LNE for the calibration of refractory thermocouples up to 2 000°C. The device includes a thermally assessed, graphite technology furnace enabling heating in vacuum or in an inert gas, which are the environments usually met at these temperature levels. Thermocouples are calibrated by comparison to a standard radiation thermometer designed specifically for this device. This paper presents the principal functionalities of the bench, the conditions of use in vacuum or inert atmosphere for the available refractory thermocouples, and the metrological assessment of two thermocouples, the wires of which are in alloys of tungsten and rhenium.
