PRELIMINARY STUDY OF THE SEISMIC VULNERABILITY OF HOUSING BUILDINGS IN LIMA, PERU

Peru is located in a region of high seismicity. Dwellings are built with materials ranging from adobe to reinforced concrete. This work presents results of a preliminary study to characterize the seismic vulnerability associated to the constructive techniques used in Lima, the capital city. Existing houses built with adobe blocks, unreinforced brick masonry, confined brick masonry and reinforced concrete were selected. The seismic vulnerability of each building was evaluated by estimating the damage that would occur due to earthquakes with different intensity levels.
