A new non-linear one-dimensional site response analysis model is developed for vertical propagation of horizontal shear waves in deep soil deposits. Soil response is modeled using a modified hyperbolic model with extended Masing criteria to represent hysteretic loading and unloading of soil. The constitutive model is further extended to take into account the influence of large confining pressures on strain dependent modulus degradation and damping of soil. In addition, the full Rayleigh viscous damping matrix has been incorporated to account for the influence of deep deposits. The new model is verified through the recordings made at a) Treasure Island during Loma Prieta Earthquake (1989) and Warm Springs Earthquake (1999). Results indicate that pressure-dependent model and full Rayleigh viscous damping formulation significantly improves estimates of the ground response in deep as well as moderate depth deposits.
