The coking chamber wall diagnosis system developed by Nippon Steel has made it possible to quantitatively diagnose the coking chamber wall surface at high speed. The time required for diagnosis of one oven in operation by this system is as short as 20 minutes. When the coking operation is not continuous, the measurement of several ovens can be made in a day without causing a delay in operation. In the batteries for which this system was introduced, the formulation of battery repair plan can be made by conducting the evaluation of damage of each oven through the diagnosis of all coking chambers once a year. Furthermore, in actual repairs, effective flame gunning repairs can be carried out based on the detailed damage information which is obtained from the wall surface control system. In addition, it has become possible to take appropriate measures, such as carbon removal and repair, by utilizing this system upon occurrence of hard pushing, making a contribution to the stabilization of coking operation.
