The development of non-contacting Radar technology over the last few years hasled to a tremendous increase in the number of gauges and applications found inindustrial situations. Due to its high level of performance in conditions that historicallyhave created difficulty in obtaining a level measurement, (temperature, pressure,condensation, etc.), Radar is now the fastest growing level measurement technology onthe market. As a result of its non-contact ability and recent technical advances, Radar isable to provide several benefits to an end user including ease of instillation, lowmaintenance, low power consumption, hazardous area classifications, and low cost.With many manufactures of many different types of Radar on the market, it hasbecome increasingly difficult for an end user to select the proper combination of RadarGauge and application. This paper will strive to provide an overview of Radar historyand technology, a description of types of Radar available, and a basic methodology bywhich to select the proper gauge for an application.
