A stand-alone 13,770 Wp photovoltaic plant was built in the Natural Park O Invernadeiro in Galicia, Spain. This Park is the largest Natural Park in this Spanish region. The installation satisfies the electricity needs of a hostel with lodging capacity for 60 persons and of the monitors’ house. Prior to the PV installation, electricity was supplied by means of a Diesel generator. The PV array comprises 162 monocrystalline modules, with a 30o slope and orientation south. Modules are grouped in six panels of 27 modules each, and connected in series of three modules to reach 48 VCC nominal voltages. The installation also disposes of a data monitoring system. The PV plant is complemented with a hydro-turbine that can charge the battery through a 2.5 kW charger, especially in winter time. The performance of the system has been investigated with the continuous monitoring of the main meteorological constants, the solar radiation and the DC and AC parameters of the field. The installation continues to be a success in the area as a demonstration project for PV hybrid systems.
