This paper investigates the behaviour of multi-storey buildings base-isolated by frictionpendulum systems and subjected to horizontal harmonic ground motion. The non-linearequations of motion have been expressed in a particular simple form through the use ofappropriate Lagrangian parameters. The dynamic response of the system has been evaluatednumerically by means of a Fast Non-linear Analysis in which the displacement of thesuperstructure have been expressed as a combination of a sufficient number of modal shapesof the structure on a fixed base. Extensive parametric investigations have been performed inorder to investigate the non-linear behaviour of the structure in the frequency domain. Theresults allow to compare the dynamic response of the sliding system with the response of thesame structural system on a fixed base.
