One of the most relevant parameters to characterize a pumping system is the water flow rate delivered as a function electric power input. Often, services from accredited laboratories to obtain such measurements are not easily available. Full-fledged experimental measurements are becoming more complex and sophisticated, requiring use of instrumentation which is not always accessible, and, furthermore, may not be essential for certain applications. The objective of this paper is to divulge a simple method to determine the basic working parameters, that are required for the implementation and demonstration of PV pumping systems as well as for technical training in this field. This article presents a basic instrumentation for the assembly of a simplified testing bench, describes testing procedures, presents data obtained from test performed and suggests ways to obtain the best possible results with this type of instrumentation.
