The aim of this paper is to actualise the knowledge of the state of the art in lighting systems with fluorescent lamps used in PV systems. Fourteen different models of D.C. lighting systems with fluorescent lamp have been analysed. These lights are manufactured for PV systems and some of them are part of PV lighting kits. All samples have been working during 100 hours before been submitted to several tests. The tests include the degradation of the samples until 5000 hours, with daily switching on/off cycles and with periodic measurements of the luminous flux and power consumption. Other test performed includes the analysis of labelling, influence of the luminaire. behaviour at different battery voltage, power consumption, luminous flux etc. The tests were performed on the frame of a JOULE project (The PLISE project, founded in part by the European Commission, DG XII). The tests performed are based in procedures developed for the PLISE project. Another part of the work for the PLISE project was the definition of the minimum requirements to be fulfilled for the lights. Only three models passed the most important test.
