A new algorithm based on the minimum criterion is proposed and two mathematical formulae are developed to solve the roundness evaluation problems. The basic principle of the algorithm can be described as follows: First, draw a pair of concentric circles with the point of intersection of the vertical bisectors of two cross chords on measured profile as the center and the distances from the center point to the ends of two cross chords as radii. Second, check to see whether the concentric circles cover the whole measured profile or not, Finally, replace one of the two cross chords by another chord selected on the measured profile if it is not, and start another calculate cycle until the concentric circles covered the whole measured profile.
