Twenty-two water samples (fifteen cold groundwater and seven geothermal water samples) were collected to elucidate chemical characteristics of geothermal water and cold groundwater in the Haeundae hot-spring area (one of the famous thermal bathing stations in South Korea) and its vicinity. Major and minor elements were analyzed for both water samples. Physicochemical properties of the geothermal water and cold groundwater were examined and chemical composition was compared with each other. Factor analysis was carried out to simplify the physicochemical data into grouping some factors and to find interaction among them. Geochemical modeling was performed to evaluate mineral-water interaction. Several geo-thermometers were applied to estimate equilibrium temperature of the geothermal reservoir.
