WEED CONTROL WITH FLORASULAM AND ITS COMBINATION WITH 2,4-D OR FLUMETSULAM IN WINTER WHEAT IN CHINA

Florasulam (DE-570), a new triazolopyrimidine sulfonanilide herbicide developed by Dow AgroSciences, is highly selective to cereals and turf, and very active on broadleaf weeds in the plant families - Compositae, Polygonaceae, Caryophyllaceae, Rubiaceae, and Cruciferae. Florasulam and its combinations with 2,4-D EHE or flumetsulam were tested for weed control with a series of field trials in winter wheat in China during 1997 to 1999. Florasulam at 2.5-5.0 g ai/ha and its combinations with 2,4-D or flumetsulam were very effective to control Descurainia sophia, Capsella bursa-pastoris, Galium aparine, Stellaria media and Silene conoidea. The addition of 2,4-D EHE to florasulam provided additional satisfactory control against Veronica persica and Euphorbia helioscopia. Optimum rates of florasulam in formulations ranged from 2.5 to 5g ai/ha depending on application timing and weed species as well as climatic conditions at application.
