Sensitization to Color: Induced by Instructions, Measured by Motion

Prolonged searching for a color makes the salience of the searched-for color equivalent to that of color that is 1.5 to 3 times more saturated. This sensitization can be observed at 4.2 Hz and it can last for weeks (Tseng et al 2000). But an attentional instruction is effective in the motion task only below 4 Hz, and attention can be transferred immediately to another color. This implies that there may be different mechanisms underlying these two different tasks even though they can both be assessed by a third-order motion paradigm.
