A study has been performed on five different heats with an austenite (γ) potential range between 0.1 and 0.6. Following a standardised hot rolling practice, the individual heats were annealed at sub-critical temperatures for periods ranging from 10 minutes up to 20 hours. The annealing response of the primary ferrite increased with increasing γ-potential, although the predominant mode of recovery was by subgrain coalescence in all cases. Martensite recovered to form finegrained ferrite and the resultant annealed microstructures were a mixture of elongated primary ferrite grains and fine-grained ferrite colonies. Texture evolution during annealing resulted in {100}<011> and {111}<110> orientations at low γ-potential and {112}<110>, cube and ND-rotated cube at high γ-potential.
