A TAXONOMY OF ANTECEDENTS TO INFORMATION SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT BASED ON USER-IS INTERACTION

In this paper a taxonomy of antecedents to information systems development is proposed and analyzed. The taxonomy is derived by analyzing the concept of interaction that takes place between users and IS specialists during systems development. By conceptually analyzing this interaction, categories of antecedents that precede and influence systems development activities are identified. The taxonomy proposed is general and may be applicable to investigate, explain, and predict the outcomes of user-IS specialist interaction throughout the information systems development life cycle. However, consistent with earlier work on user participation, the focus of the discussion is on user-IS specialist interaction during information systems development. The taxonomy draws on earlier work on user participation by previous researchers [14, 30, 29, 32, 45] and the Theory of Reasoned Action for studying beliefs, attitudes, intentions, and behaviors [2, 26].
