UNDERSTANDING AND USING SAP R/3 SOFTWARE AND THE IDES DATABASE PARTS I II PARTICIPANTS

Many University Alliance members have SAP R/3 software but do not know or are uncertain as to how it might be used in the classroom. This workshop is intended to be an introduction to the IDES data set and its use in the classroom environment. IDES (International Demonstration and Education System) is a pre-configured installation of R/3, populated with data and business processes of fictional enterprises. It is the basis for exercises and system demonstrations in SAP's worldwide training courses. Because the data and processes are of the Model Company are installed with R/3, faculty members need neither populate the database with their own data nor create their own exercises.The proposed workshop will last about three hours and will be structured as follows:1. Brief overview of ERP and navigating SAP R/32. Exploration of the IDES database3. How the database interfaces with SAP training courses4. How the database can be used in a variety of business courses5. How to use the database for SAP/ERP exercises6. Resources available through SAP and other websites related to the IDES databaseIn general, this workshop is designed to demonstrate how both the SAP R/3 System and the IDES database can be incorporate into business courses. This session may be most suitable to SAP University Alliance members that have installed or will be very soon installing the software and the IDES database. Though, all conference participants are encouraged to consider attending.
