THE EMPLOYMENT OF GENERIC TOOLS IN THE FIELD OF WEB BASED DATABASE APPLICATIONS

The development of web-based systems is not a new, but still a young field of activity. A lot of methods, already established in the field of conventional software development are, based on the current strong product driven development, only adopted slowly in this area. This paper describes our experience in developing web-based systems and presents a tool for generic application- and GUI development, which strongly simplifies the development of web based database applications. After a short presentation of our gained experience and requirements derived out of it, we present our approch to support the development of web based database applications. The result is a generic tool for automatically generating an intermediate acces layer and parts of the user interface of an application.
