In this paper we propose a tree-like system architecture for the XML-based information server, where nodes are conceptually organized in form of the aggregate and classified into active and passive nodes. For each active node five layers - syntax, semantic, instance, rule, and execution - are defined while for each passive node only four layers - syntax, semantic, instance and rules ― are used. We also identify rules for creating an aggregate and a node. The architecture enables easy extensibility, good portability, flexible data presentation, clear modularity and concurrent development. It also allows the widely proposed design paradigm - separation of data modeling from data usage and data presentation. In this paper we also define rules for identifying an aggregate and nodes.
