An important application of Ikonos remote sensing image with high resolution is for mapping in middle and small scale and extraction of spatial geometric information. The key is 3-dimension (3D) modeling from Ikonos stereo image pair. After introducing the parameters of calculation formulae from geographical coordinates to image coordinates the forward resection method of Ikonos stereo image pair is discussed. The calculation formulae are derivative based on the mathematical model of calculation from geographical coordinates to image coordinates and least square adjustment principle. The ground coordinates can be computed from the coordinates of conjugate image point pair. Combining the method with the image matching and functions of digital photogrammetry system VirtuoZo, a system is created for 3D processing of Ikonos stereo image pair. The real Ikonos stereo image pair is used in the experiment to check the validity of the forward resection method of Ikonos stereo image pair. The created system can implemented all work of mapping in middle and small scale and extraction of spatial geometric information, including DTM generation, digital ortho-image production, digital map and real 3D landscape, which is shown in the end of the paper.
