In the era of globalisation/liberlisation of economy in India, it is very difficult for all petrochemical/chemical industries to survive in the age of highly competitive / challenging market scenario. As the engineering design & fabrication procedures are becoming more complex & also the service loads & operating conditions are changing to limiting values, it is very irrelevant/ uneconomical in such condition to conduct destruction test on the individual/ assembly of the equipment. It invokes the need of NDT for the equipments/ sub parts of assemblies. This paper describes as to How & Why NDT practices can be effectively applied to ensure reliability in operation, to prevent accident & save human life, to aid in better equipment design at M/s Narmada Chematur Petrochemicals Ltd. -BHARUCH (INDIA), which focuses on minimization of wastage of material, maintaining high level of industrial productivity, to improve the performance of equipment in service, the ways in which NDT has helped and succeeded over the past five years. A case study illustrated here at deals with Residual Life Assessment (RLA) through in-situ metallography for impeller of Mono Nitro Toluene Pump at M/s NCPL, INDIA.
