The wave forces acting on the semi-circular breakwaters are studied with a hybrid numerical method of Boundary Element Method (BEM) and Finite Difference Method (FDM) in this paper. In order to simulate the wave breaking, a damping factor is introduced into the kinetic free surface boundary condition when wave breaks near the breakwater. A wavemaker technology and the non-reflect open boundary are adopted in this paper. Five sets of laboratory experimental data that consist semi-circular breakwaters with different diameters and shapes have been used to calibrate and verify the numerical model, and good agreements are obtained between the numerical results and the experimental data.
