Some discrete computation method, such as Cellular Automaton (CA) method and Lattice Gas Automaton method, are recently introduced to analyze the problems in the engineering field. In these methods, the physical phenomenon is simulated by using the local rules instead of the differential equation. The qualitative analysis is, therefore, easy to perform by using the local rules. In this study, a seismic wave propagation was simulated by using the CA method. One-dimensional CA model is constructed for the S-wave propagation while two-dimensional CA model for the P-wave propagation. And the local rules for one- and two-dimensional CA model were derived. The difference of traveling speed of wave is treated by the shift of update time of state parameters. The validity of the method was checked by the numerical examples. It was considered that the seismic response can be well simulated qualitatively and good accuracy can be achieved by the precious treatment of traveling speed of wave.
