Company X spends $42 million on maintenance each year. This work is defined andscheduled through a maintenance management system, part of an enterprise solution thatcost the company over $5 million for licence fees, management consulting and installation.Over the next three years, Company X will spend $63 million annually on renewals to itsaging asset base. This work is defined and scheduled on Word and Excel, which arestandard applications on the desks of the company’s engineers and accountants.Company X is the composite of many hydroelectric utilities worldwide. BC Hydro, recognizingthat decisions on renewals have significant impacts on its business, has developed aRenewals Management System based on documented processes and driven by its ownsoftware application, TAPlogicTM. This system results in better decisions regarding themodernization of hydroelectric assets.
