Increasingly stringent environmental regulations are placing greater emphasis on CO_2 and dust emissions from steelplants. Additionally, there is a need to save energy as part of the continuing drive to reduce costs. Oschatz have a long history of providing energy recovery systems in coke ovens and sinter plants and, in more recent years, also with steelplant primary and secondary gas and dust collection systems. Converter waste gas systems, with suppressed combustion and evaporative cooling, offer significant benefits including increased hood life, greater potential energy recovery and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and are described in this paper.
