VAI PLATE MILL AUTOMATION - THE LEADING PLATE MILL QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PACKAGE

With the increasing demand for high plate quality combined with a high productivity rate, the ongoing technological development of the Plate Mill rolling process and the request of a wider range of products rolled in Plate Mills, the need of advanced automation system increases. The plate producers need to drastically improve their product quality while reducing, in the same time, their production costs. This is supported by measures, such as: 1. Mill stand modernization and automation 2. On-line temperature treatment 3. Optimal hot leveling 4. Furnace combustion control Since 20 years VAI-Automation is the leading supplier of a quality package for Plate Mills which helps to achieve the above mentioned targets. This quality package utilizes the experience of more then 20 references and incorporates the technological know-how of some of the leading Plate Mill operators in Europe, based on a close cooperation with them. VAI-Automation has already finished successfully a Plate Mill project for JISCO/ China, is currently working on a complete revamp on the Plate Mill of VOEST-ALPINE STAHL in Linz/ Austria and could win another three Plate Mill projects and one Steckel Mill project in China. This recent successes underlines even more the leading position of VAI-Automation in the field of Plate Mills. This paper will present an overview of the VAI Plate Mill technology and gives a short introduction of the new projects especially within the Chinese market.
