Low-frequency components of wave force may set a moored vessel in resonant motion. Newman's approximate method for calculating low frequency force has long been a fast and simple alternative to using 2~(nd)-order transfer functions. The method has the disadvantage that it creates high-frequency components that are unphysical. It is shown how these components can be eliminated by a simple modification to the method. The improved method is illustrated by an example.
