Effects of salts on wall paintings and rendering in Augustusburg Castle

摘要

Mineralogical and chemical investigations of damages on wall paintings and rendering in the Augustusburg Castle (Saxony) have shown the interaction of environmental pollution, local building materials and climatic conditions in the formation of salts and their effects on a historic monument. Such investigations can not only help to explain the mechanism of damages but can also give support to the restorer's work for preservation of the monument.
