In extrusion applications, increasing billet size and the number of strands on press load, a basic energy approach is utilized. Experimental flow stress data in conjunction with strain rate estimations are inputs to the model. Deformation efficiencies and redundant work tactors are calculated for specific die-container combinations. The mdoel is compared with actual press data, in which billet size and the number of strands were varied. A statistical "design of experiemnts" approach was undertaken in process experimentation.
