How to make use of the resources on WWW fully and effectively has become an insistent require by more and more people. Based on such require, we designed and implemented a prototype of a Personalized Intelligent Navigation System PINS. It assists the users to find and obtain the information that they are most interested in more efficiently. In order to gain portability, scalability, interoperability, reliability and good performance, a lot of work is done on the design of PINS's system architecture. Several kinds of architecture are discussed in this article, and a Web-oriented computing system architecture using CORBA and Java technologies is presented as the final solution.
