BOF Scrubber solids recycling with hot slag at the SBC sparrows point division

This paper describes how Bethlehem Steel's Sparrows Point Division is using a unique and patented (see reference) hot slag method for processing and recycling the steelmaking Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) gas cleaning scrubber solids. Upon completion of this waste management project the majority of the scrubber sludge will be recycled. It is anticipated that this will result in a net return to the Division from the recovery of iron values, reduced landfill costs, and reduced BOF operating cost.
