A Web-based Appointment System Implemented in JSP and JavaBean

摘要

This paper reports our experience in applying technology to K-12 education. More than one million children (grades K - 12) are home schooled during 1999 - 2000 in the United States. Public school systems provide experienced teachers as mentors and monitors for the parents to ensure that the children are receiving proper education. Each teacher is usually assigned to 30 - 40 parents. The growth of the World Wide Web and the development of the Java programming language offer unique educational opportunities. This paper discusses how to use Java Server Pages (JSP) and JavaBean to implement an appointment system that helps the parents to arrange appointments with the teachers. The appointment system is only part of a larger Web-based monitoring system for home schooling through public schools. The paper describes the software architecture of the appointment system and discusses the interaction among different components of the system.
