Africa has the least developed hydro and mini hydro potential of any continent. Recent developments in international efforts to reduce global warming may have benefits to this market. In addition, deregulation and privatisation of generators and utilities are planned for some countries. The effects of these and other factors on the mini hydro market in Africa are analysed here, with the aid of case studies.
