Advanced combined-cycle cogeneration power plant fueled by bagasse is more efficient than the traditional sugar factory combined heat and power (CHP) generation system. This allows the sugar factories to sell power to the grid to subsidize the cost of sugar production. The conceptual power generation system configuration considered here includes a mass burning furnace-boiler system which can use the blend of bagasse and woody waste as fuel, and a gas turbine, coupled with a HRSG, firing on natural gas and/or biomass gasification products. A single steam turbine is used with steam generated either by heat derived from the exhaust of gas turbine or by direct combustion of bagasse. Either a single-extraction or double-extraction condensing-steam turbine is used depending on the level of process seam required. The gasifier considered in this work is based on atmosphere-pressure air-blown fluidized bed gasification with dry scrubbing. The feedstock in the modeling is a mixture of bagasse and waste wood or sawmill dust, with moisture content in the range of 20 to 50 percent.
