We present a method for simultaneously resolving the fluid velocity and the temperature in turbulent convective fields. The considered experimental technique is liquid crystal thermometry (LCT) in combination with digital particle image velocimetry (DPIV). An image-processing algorithm for determining 2-D temperature and velocity fields from the recorded digital images is presented. A thermally stratified layer is ued for calibration and data validation. The algorithm is applied to quantitative visualizations of Rayleigh-Benard convection at Ra chemical bounds 3.4 centre dot 10~(-5), Pr chemical bounds 4.8.
