An experimental investigation of two-phase flow mechanisms during condensation of refrigerant R134a in small diameter horizontal tubes was conducted. Unique experimental techniques and test sections were developed to enable the documentation of the flow mechanisms during phase change. This represents a departure from approaches used by other investigators that have included extrapholation from air-water flow regime maps, addiabatic two-phase flow, and others.
