摘要

The fracture micromechanisms of the interface decohesion of a steel-steel HIP bonded joint were investigated using both experiments and numerical analysis. The origin of the fracture is the presence of residual oxide inclusions at the interface after the HIP process. Notched tensile specimens were tested using different geometries and initial quantities of inclusions. The Thomason model for the coalescence of cavities initiated from inclusions was implemented in finite element calculations. The results show a good agreement between predictions and experimental data concerning the influence of the initial oxide population and the modelling of the observed scatter in strains to failure.
