Polyurethane fiber "Spandex" has the property of superior extension and contraction, and exhibits a high degree of rubberlike elasticity. Examples of spandex products are swimsuits, panties, foundation garments, and bandages and so on. Spandex is formed by use of dry spinning. The polymer used in dry spinning of spandex fiber is segmented polyurethane-urea elastomer which is the multi-block copolymer composed of so-called hard and soft segments. Hard segments have effect on polymer strength and soft segments have effect on polymer flexibility. There have been many studies on the mechanics and stability of melt spinning. Very few attempts, however, have been made to understand the underlying mechanisms of the dry spinning process in comparison with those of the melt spinning. Therefore, the purpose of this research is development of the simulation program of dry spinning.
