The optimal placement of a storey-installation type damper for vibration control has not yet been established. Therefore, in almost cases, the dampers have bene installed uniformly in each storey. However, this placement method is inefficient. Though to arrange dampers along the optimum placement shape is very important, it is hard to search the optimum placement. This study attempts to apply the genetic algorithm (GA) to determine the proper distribution for the storey-installation type damper rapidly and easily. Authors assumed tha tvibration control device was installed in the industry facilities (e.g. the thermal power plant) which suffered a great economic damage in a disaster, and examined the optimum arrang ement method of this device. The boiler structure as a representative of industry facilities and the plastic flow damper that is under development are applied in this analysis. Moreover, the number of device in each parts and the placement shapes against each design condition are decided by the procedure switching GAwhich improved traditional GA because the arrangement that satisfies the purpose has to searched from many combinations. The results from this analysis are exhibited in this paper.
