Evaluation of existing nonsafety-related heat exchangers, to determine if they need to be repaired or if they are acceptable for continued service as-is, requires speedy determination, especially if a nuclear plant is on a fast track outage. This evaluation is frequently made more difficult because of the age of the equipment and unavailability of the original design documentation. Hence, it is imperative to establish methods that can be readily used to find the required minimum thickness for each component of the heat exchanger.
