摘要

Holland Lake is located in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area, MN. It has relatively good water quality and is being considered for stocking with brown trout. However, there are low summer concentrations of dissolved oxygen (DO) in certain layers of the lake metalimnion and most of the hypolimnion, which adversely affect fish habitat. Therefore, a comprehensive study was initiated to better understand the water temperature and DO stratification dynamics of Holland Lake and to provide background information for a potential lake aeration system. The work described herein is related to the numerical modeling of Holland Lake thermo-hydrodynamics and material transport under stable summer stratification that is critical for lake water quality and fish habitat. The convective exchange processes between shallow (littoral) waters and deep (profundal) waters are specifically addressed by a two-dimensional hydrodynamic and transport simulation model.
