Much attention has been paid recently to the basic intermetallic compound TiMn_2 with λ_1 hexagonal structure. It has rather broad homogeneity and serves as a basis for a series of perspective multicomponent hydrogen absorbing alloys. In present work we tried to determine the homogeneity range of Laves phase in the Ti-Mn-V system and to study the influence of vanadium on hydrogen absorption properties of alloys. Metallic Ti-Mn-V system was investigated using methods of X-ray and EPM analysis. The phase boundaries ofλ_1 -phase were determined for the first time. Alloying with vanadium considerably improves the hydrogen absorption characteristics of Ti-Mn alloys.
