SIMPLIFIED METHOD FOR SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS OF PAH FROM FLUE GASES AND WORKPLACE AIR

A method is presented which describes the sampling and analysis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in flue gases and the workplace air of tar and pitch processing factories. The advantages of this method over the established guidelines VDI 3467, 3873 and others concerning flue gas analysis are its simplicity, the certainty of measurements and a cost reduction of up to 90 %. Advantages with respect to workplace air analysis are the facilitated sample preparation and complete PAH profile from naphthalene to coronene. The analytical procedures are laid down in guidelines AKK117 (flue gases) and AKK117a (workplace air) of the German Arbeitskreis Kohlenstoff.
