Water spray cooling system - a gaseous suppression system enhancer

The purpose of the Naval Research Laboratory's (NRL) Halon 1301 Total Flooding Replacement Program~1 is to investigate all available holon alternative technologies and their applicability for shipboard use. The principal threat is from flammable liquids. The program~2 includes establishing a technology base of combustion kinetics, dynamics, and modeling, and a progression of laboratory (Cup Burner), intermediate and real scale testing. This paper reviews the NRL invented and developed Water Spray Cooling System (WSCS)~3 as a means to enhance gaseous halon replacement performance.
